M C & G  Bridge Studio   11-Sep-2016

TIP OF THE WEEK: Consider making your overcall then double when you have a  good 5-card suit and about 12 16 HCP.  Doubling and bidding shows a GOOD 17+ hand.  Holding S AK876; H-3 2; D-AJ4; C-K65.  After RHO opens 1 heart, just overcall 1 spade, then if they raise to 2 hearts you can now double showing your 5-card spades suit, shortness in the opponent's suit and at least 3-cards in the other suits.

For more information call the Studio (902-446-3910) or email Kathie - kmacnab@eastlink.ca
Building a Better Foundation - Begins on TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 20th at 9:30 am.

 You hold the following hand:
         S A J 7 6 5 4 2
         H Q 5 4
         D 6
         C -  8 5
What is your opening bid?

Answer to last week's quiz:
Whether you play Jacoby 2NT or Standard American choose what you would rebid.
You hold:
         S A K 10 7 5
         H J 9 6 3
         D J
         C K 7 6

You open the  bidding with 1S and partner bids 2NT.  What is your rebid.

If you are playing a standard system you should bid 3H.  Describe your 5-4 hand, you felt it was good enough to open - go through with it.
Playing Jacoby 2NT your rebid is 3D!  You do not rebid spades because you are a minimum hand, your partner is the captain, you must bid your singleton - it is part of the system.

See you at the tables,
Kathie & Bill Halliday
