M C & G  Bridge Studio   17-Jul-2016

TIP OF THE WEEK: When overcalling against NoTrump be wary of any balanced hand (4-4-3-2; 5-3-3-2, or 4-3-3-3) as you do not have a source of tricks.  But be aggressive when you have a six-card or longer suit or at least nine cards in two suits.  Control cards and length play a bigger part then points.

Kathie is off to Washington DC to learn some new great programs and lesson ideas from bridge teachers across North America!!  See you in August!!

THIS WEEK'S BRIDGE QUIZ:
You  hold:
           S A
           H A K Q J 10 7 5
           D K Q 5
           C A 3
Imagine you would open 2 clubs with this hand, and partner bids  2D (waiting) what is your rebid?

 SOLUTION TO LAST WEEK'S QUIZ:

Below are three different auctions with North and South.  In each how many hearts and how many points does South hold?

1)  West     North     East     South
                   1H        pass        2H
      All pass

STANDARD:  A simple raise with 3 or 4 hearts, 6-10 points.  By PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT could show 8-10 points.

2)  West     North     East     South
                   1H        pass        1NT
      Pass     2D        pass        2H
      All pass

STANDARD: A delayed raise with typically 2 only hearts (maybe less) with 6-10 points.  If you are playing forcing NT, it could be a poor hand less than 7 points and maybe 3 hearts by PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT.

3)  West     North     East     South
                   1NT        pass        2C
      Pass      2D         pass        3H
      Pass      3NT     All pass

Unless you have a SPECIAL partnership agreement, STANDARD: here is 5 hearts ( and 4 spades) with 10+ points

See you at the tables,
