M C & G Bridge Studio 26-Jun-2016
TIP OF THE WEEK: Did you know that
when responder rebids 2NT it is almost always 11 HCP – with a poor 10 they
tend to stay at 1NT and with a good 12 they jump to 3NT. Also when partner
jumps to 3 of a minor- - - 11 pts. Just count on that.

open the bidding with 1 Heart, and partner responds 1NT – what is your REBID?
Answer: You have a
‘semi’-balanced hand with 18 – 19 HCP, bid 2NT. A 2NT rebid by
opener over partner’s 1NT initial response shows 18-19, which is what you
have. There is no point in bidding the spade suit as partner would
have bid them directly if they had FOUR spades. As opener it is your job
to DESCRIBE your hand, you have a ‘semi’ balanced hand, but what you hold.
3NT is not a good idea, as partner could well have responded with just
FIVE points, and you would be over your head!!
