M C & G  Bridge Studio   6-Mar-2016

TIP OF THE WEEK: It is a good tactic to open light in third or fourth position.  But beware of opening ‘any’ 9 or 10’ point hand.  You must have a good suit and be willing to pass partner’s response.  The goal of the third seat opener  is:

To make a parts core contract
To help partner find  a good  opening lead
To cause the opponents to misjudge the situation.

KUDOS & CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Marilyn Robertson & Gerry Porter who had 70.20% on Monday and Russell Stacey & Karen Lowe with 71.67% on Wednesday afternoon!  My Kudos this week go to everyone who coped very nicely using old fashion travellers while  Bill dealt with our DEAD computer.
But FYI - we have  a new computer and Bill (God bless him) spent the weekend adding, amending and revising all our programs. But we will be here all next week to make sure  all is working well.

THIS WEEK'S BRIDGE QUIZ:
You are in 4H, and the opening lead is the S-J.  Plan your play
        North
        S – 9 8
        H – K 10 6 5
        D – K J 5 4
        C – 4 3 2
Lead:
 S – J
        South
        S – A Q
        H – A J 4 3 2
        D – A Q 9
        C – K 7 6

Solution to Last Week's quiz:
Your RHO opens the bidding with 1-D and with this hand you make a take out double:
   S - A K Q 5
   H – K J 7 2
   D – J
   C – Q J 7 3
Your partner responds with 1-S and RHO passes.  What is your next call?
Answer:
Bid 3-S!  You have a lovely hand with 17 HCP and 3 for a singleton diamond.  But remember partner could have ZERO.  Your jump bid to 3 shows a strong hand and if partner has 0-4 they will pass and with 5-8 they will continue to game.

See you at the tables,
