M C & G Bridge Studio 17-Jan-2016
TIP OF THE WEEK: When
partner leads an Ace or King and you hold Q J x x play the Queen.
The play of the Queen to partner's lead promises the Jack (or a
singleton). Partner may now under lead their honour to have you on
lead! A discard of the King promises the Queen and denies the Ace.
The play of the Jack promises the 10 and denies the Queen. Therefore
it is unwise to discard a Queen or Jack to show a doubleton.
Kudos to Nancy Fraser and Trish Hattie my assistants for our
"Bridge in a Day". It was a fun and successful day
as we introduced many players to our wonderful game. After
several cancellations due to weather we still had 37 participants.
We will do this again in the Spring - so tell your friends.
WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE
BRIDGE STUDIO THIS WEEK: This week we will feature
JUNIOR FUND GAMES:
STUDENTS OF THE GAME:
lessons are underway.
THIS WEEK'S BRIDGE QUIZ:
do you know about partners distribution? What call do you make if
this is your hand?
Solution to Last Week's
is a tricky hand and I would likely bid 1 Heart! Yes it is only a 4-card
suit, but it is so rich in values and if the opponents win the auction -
I want partner to lead a Heart. The risks of being doubled are slim
as I have lots of Heart honours, my D-K also rates to be a working
card as well.
