TIP OF THE WEEK:

When partner opens 1NT, most 4NT bids are quantitative.  4NT is only ace-asking when the partnership has found, and agreed on, an eight-card or longer trump suit.  The Gerber Ace asking bid (4C) is typically used  by responder  who would have a long running suit and just wants to know about Aces.  It is seldom used.

KUDOS & CONGRATULATIONS:  Congrats to Dave Etter and Derek Fury- they came 2nd in Moncton on Saturday and will have the privilege of attending the National finals in Reno NV.  Kudos to all the masters that participated in the Rookie/Master game on Thursday evening  - your expertise is very much appreciated.  And with that CONGRATULATIONS to Lou Ann Thomson & Jane Spinder for the First place finish with 63.39%.  A Thank you goes out to Maureen Donovan who coordinated the Spencer House Fund raiser on Friday evening.  Bilgin Batman (Unit 194 President), Doug Hamilton (District 1 President) and Me  (CBF Zone Director) all attended this fine event.

Solution to Last Week's Quiz
Everyone is vulnerable and partner opens the bidding with 2S.  What is your call holding:
S Q 8 6 3
H 10
D Q J 10 7 6 3
C J 8

Answer:
Bid 4S!  You actually have a great sacrifice hand.  Surely the opponents have hearts and will likely bid a game.  But you can see that your side will likely have No Spade losers and at the most 1 heart, 2 diamonds and 2 club losers.  That is only down TWO much better score versus the opponents game score of 620.

To Derek Broughton - wishing you all the best in your  new  adventures in the  UK, we will miss you, keep in touch.  From all of us  at  the Bridge  Studio.

See you at the tables.
