What to Expect from our Courses:
The Bridge Studio offers the most qualified and successful teachers in HRM. Kathie Macnab and Jill McCormick have decades of teaching experience. Kathie Macnab has earned the designation of Master Teacher from the American Bridge Teacher's Association and is also Better Bridge Certified Trainer for future teachers, Jill McCormick was a finalist for the North American Bridge Teacher's Association - Teacher of the Year. Through training from Audrey Grant and Kathie Macnab the Bridge Studio adds 7 more teachers to it's roster - Nancy Fraser, Trish Hattie, Steve Anderson, Doug Hamilton, Terry Shaw, Carol Hamilton and Jim Kirby. The hundreds of students taught at The Bridge Studio now enjoy both social and competitive bridge. We offer lessons from the ACBL teaching series, Popular Topics, Audrey Grant's Better Bridge and specially designed and researched Bridge Studio lesson series.
COURSE CONTENT
BEGINNER BRIDGE CLASSES:
LEARNING THE GAME - Hands on Introduction to the Game of Bridge - A fun and easy way to learn the game of bridge. Presented in a hands-on format that will have you playing cards by the end of the first lesson! Bridge Basics will be presented in two 6-week sessions. The first session will deal with hand structure and NoTrump bidding. Giving the participants lots of time to play hands so they become comfortable declarers, as well we will discuss some basic ideas for the defending side. The second session will look at suit bidding by opener and responder. As well further insight into the ABC's of declarer play.

For All Advancing Beginners and Advancing Students
Competitive Bidding - What to do when both sides are in the auction - preemptive bidding, overcalls and doubles. Understand and use these competitive strategies. The second course from Audrey Grant is an excellent way to introduce players into COMPETITIVE BIDDING. It is a well organized format that shows us how to use the various competitive options to your best advantage. This course will be held in two 6-week sessions, on Mondays at 9:30 am or 7:00 pm. § BRIDGE BASICS 2.5
This course was specially designed by Balon Buckley and Kathie Macnab is the perfect compliment to the ACBL Bidding Series and the Better Bridge Bridge Basics 1 series. Designed as a six week course, Steve is stretching this course into one that covers 8 weeks to give you ample practice hands. This course is a great review of the fundamentals of bidding. Completing this course should help the advancing player consolidate his understanding of the effectiveness of overcalls, take out bids, strong opening bids, and pre-emptive bids. In addition, Steve will highlight what he thinks is perhaps the key to successful bidding - rebids by opener and responder....what's forcing, what's invitational, what's signing off. Tips on declarer play which focus on how to eliminate losers will also be included. $85.00 booklet included

A special course designed by Jill McCormick and the Bridge Studio. This course consists of two 6-week programs. All the guidelines for basics defense are covered along with what a good defender should look for. How to count declarer's tricks, defender's tricks, valuating hands and seeing into the defending partner's cards.

SPRING COURSES:
Popular Conventions - This 6-week course will introduce participants to the 4 most popular conventions - Stayman, Jacoby Transfers, Blackwood, and Strong 2 bidding. An easy to understand format making it easy for participants to begin using this modern tools right away. The course follows Audrey Grant's Bridge Basics III text ($15.00) available.

Playing to Win - This 12 week (two 6-week sessions) course will cover many of the bridge maxims we have heard, applying a technique 4THOT this unique course will show players hot to win not just the tricks they deserve, but a few extra as well. A hand-out is included with each class.
