WINTER LESSON SCHEDULE

For the Beginner:

LEARNING THE GAME – Hands on Introduction to the Game of Bridge -- A fun and easy way to learn the game of Bridge.  Presented in a hands-on format that will have you playing with your friends in just a couple of weeks.  You will be playing cards by the end of the first lesson!  Bridge Basics will be presented in 2 6-week sessions.  The first session will deal with hand structure and NoTrump bidding.  Giving the participants lots of time to play hands so they become comfortable declarers, as well we will discuss some basic ideas for the defending side.  The second session will look at suit bidding by opener and responder.  As well further insight into the ABC’s of declarer play.

WEDNESDAYS  1:00 or 7:00  (student text available for purchase $15.00)

First Session: Wednesday January 18 – February 22, 2012

Second Session: Wednesday February 29th – Wednesday April 4th, 2012

 

Participants of this Beginner Course are invited to join in any of the Bridge Studio’s Practice Play, complimentary.

Participants may attend either a morning session and an evening session if desired.

Course Fee: $60.00 per 6-week session.

 

For All Advancing Beginners and Advancing Students:

Competitive Bidding  What to do when both sides are in the auction – preemptive bidding, overcalls and doubles.  Understand and use these defensive bids. This course will be held in two 6-week sessions, on Wednesdays at 9:30 am or 7:00 pm. Beginning January 16th, 2012.  The student text by Audrey Grant ($15.00) is available.  Course Fee: $60.00 per 6-wk session.

 

Intermediate Declarer Play: Tips and Tricks with Nancy, Concepts in Declarer Play – 12 weeks Tuesday evenings at 6:00 – beginning January 17, 2012  $120.00 including student hand outs / ACBL Play Series Text - $25.00.

                                                  Special Practice Play – 8 pre-dealt hands per session emphasizing good declarer play.  Bidding practice includes – pre-emptive bids, overcalls, take-out doubles, negative doubles and cuebids.  Thursday mornings at 9:30 Beginning January 12th - $80.00

For those who are beyond beginner or need some review – this course is for you

Bridge Basics 2.5 – Review and Refresh. This 8-week course includes many practice hands and is designed as a refresher for those wanting to get back into bridge, or  great review of the fundamentals of bidding. Completing this course should help the advancing player consolidate his understanding of the effectiveness of overcalls, take out bids, strong opening bids, and pre-emptive bids. In addition,  Steve will highlight what he thinks is perhaps the key to successful bidding - rebids by opener and responder....what's forcing, what's invitational, what's signing off. Tips on declarer play which focus on how to eliminate losers will also be included.

Defense ~ The Great Defenders:  12 weeks to becoming a good defender.  Because we defend half the hands we play this course will enable players to defend confidently.  Starting with “what to look for when defending”, working with partner from Opening Leads in suits and NoTrump, Second hand play, Third hand play, Interfering with Declarers plan and more.  Up to date materials specially prepared by Jill and The Bridge Studio.  Presented by Jim Kirby.  Monday evenings 7:00

Starting in the Spring – Bridge Basics III – A focus on 4 of the most popular Conventions – Stayman, Transfers, Blackwood, and Strong Opening bids.

 

Future Courses:

Play of the Hand (formerly the ACBL Diamond Series) From the beginning a competent declares should know how to count their tricks and form a plan.  This 8-week course is designed to help you become a competent declarer.  Student Text $20.00

THINKING BRIDGEKathie has been studying and using the EDDIE KANTAR bridge series for over a year.  These Lessons and hands will cover advanced concepts on Bidding, Play and Defense.  Each lesson is designed to have you thinking at the bridge table and helps players to develop good card sense.  All lessons come with an extensive handout including notes from Eddie Kantar and the hands played at the table.  It is recommended that you have a basic understanding of bidding and play.  Multi-level courses have information within the grasp of advanced beginners and more complex information for the advancing player.  The Schedule of Classes are posted on the Monday Topics page.  $10.00 per class.

Playing to Win: This 12 week (two 6-wk sessions) course will cover many of the bridge maxims we have heard, applying a technique 4THOT this unique course will show players how to win not just the tricks they deserve, but a few extra as well.
