3 by South
Made 3 — NS +110

Hold the South cards. How do you handle this hand after partner opens 1NT? You can't afford to bid Stayman followed by 3 because that is forcing to game and you don't have the strength for that action. Your realistic choices are pass or a transfer to clubs. My nice intermediates in clubs makes the transfer much more attractive than passing.
Over the transfer to clubs, North can enter an opinion. North can like or dislike the transfer suit. North will like the suit with Ax, Qxx, or any four card support. With a holding less than these standards, North can dislike clubs by bidding in the gap (the gap is the spade between the transfer bid 2 and the suit being shown; 3). North's 2NT bid is that bid. South was always planning on playing 3 so South bid 3. A new suit over 3 by South would be game forcing and show a singleton or void in the suit bid.
A heart lead would defeat 3 but I think the West hand will lead a spade. Leading from an honor sequence is far more appealing than leading from an unsupported ace. Declarer can win the spade lead and then play three rounds of diamonds, discarding the losing hearts. Declarer must then go back to spades, planning on trumping the last spade in dummy rather than trying to draw trump. The might get West to switch to a trump but it definitely keeps East out of the lead and lets declarer guarantee a ninth trick before getting tapped out.

6 by West
Made 6 — EW +1430

I suspect this will be a very common auction for anyone playing Jacoby 2NT and Key Card. After West 3 bid showing shortness, a partnership should generally show controls and look for a side source of tricks. When West shows a heart control, I think it will be East who is the one who "knows" slam is likely. Once a missing keycard is discovered, East will stop in 6.
The play should be straightforward. Declarer will win the opening lead and lead the Q in case North decides to cover. North should never cover because North knows East West are in a ten card or longer fit but sometimes North will mess up. Holding 10 cards in spades, the correct plan is to finesse. When the finesse loses, declarer will use the Q10 to discard two diamonds out of the dummy. Declarer will eventually trump the third diamond in dummy for 12 tricks.

  1. Control Showing Bid
  2. RKB; Roman Key Card Blackwood
  3. 2 Key Cards but no Q
6 by North
Down 1 — NS −100

North's jump rebid is a special part of 2/1. When opener jumps in his own suit after a 2/1 response from partner it shows a seven-card (or longer) suit that should play for no more than 1 loser opposite a void. North's suit qualifies for a jump rebid. It sets trump and demands that partner shows controls.
The 6 contract will be made at some tables. West will be tempted to ruff the Q so that declarer can't get any discards. If West ruffs in, declarer's trump losers will be reduced to one and the contract will be made. North will overruff and then play spades from the top.
A club lead will be devastating to declarer. North might get one discard but declarer will have a trump to lose along with a diamond.

Hold the North cards. Would you overcall West's 1NT opening? The 5-5 shape is excellent but the suit quality is very poor. Consider the vulnerability. It should make you consider passing. There is a big to risk overcalling 2 and this hand should emphasize the risk. East will double for penalty and North South will be in real trouble. If they run to 3 West has an easy double and a big penalty after East leads the A and a second diamond.
Leading trump against a doubled part score is "standard" and is usually a good idea.

Can East West reach slam? I think there is a logical auction to reach slam. Those playing Puppet Stayman will have more difficulty than those playing regular Stayman. I prefer regular Stayman to Puppet Stayman because I don't think it is really needed after a 2NT opening. West might try for a grand slam but I think West will recognize that the slam is one 30-31 points and will be pleased to reach any slam. West may well just bid a small slam over East's Blackwood response.
The play in slam is straightforward. Declarer will play a heart tot the K and a heart back to the A. When they break well, declarer will cash the Q and then take the diamond finesse.
